Josh Sharkey is coming off a stellar freshman campaign after being selected to the coaches and media’s All-SoCon freshman team as well as leading the conference in steals. This season so far he is leading the team in steals and is second in assists.

I had the opportunity to talk to the Philadelphia native and ask him a few questions about his life on and off the court.

Joi Moore: Compare last year’s team to this year’s. What are some similarities and differences between them?

Josh Sharkey: Last year’s team was deeper in my opinion. We had a lot of players at different positions which would help us this year because of all the injuries we had. We aren’t as deep as last years team.

JM: What do you do for your pregame ritual?

JS: I like to watch film on different players from various levels of the game such as college, NBA and overseas. I also like to listen to music.

JM: What is your role on the team?

JS: My role on this team is to bring energy and do whatever it takes to win.

JM: What do you bring to the team?

JS: I bring energy through my guard play as well as encouragement when I’m not on the court.

JM: Favorite hype song?

JS: My favorite hype song is “Dreams and Nightmares” by Meek Mill.

JM: What is something you feel like the team is excellent at? Needs improvement at?

JS: I feel like we are really good in the pick n’ roll. With me and Justin Coleman, I feel like we are the best two point guards in the league. We need to improve on giving it our all for 40 minutes.

JM: If you had to choose, which teammate do you feel pushes you the most in practice? Why?

JS: All my teammates push me in practice, so it’s hard for me to just pick one. We all push each other everyday.

JM: In your opinion: Drake or Meek Mill? Why?

JS: Being from Philly, I have to go with Meek Mill. But Drake is definitely one of my favorite artists.

Josh Sharkey and the Samford Bulldogs continue their conference play against Furman on Saturday Feb. 17 at Pete Hanna Center.
