Opera Birmingham will present “Catch a Rising Star,” at Brock Recital Hall Sunday Oct. 20. The performance will feature Nicholas Ward, winner of the 2019 Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition.

According to Opera Birmingham, this concert will be beneficial for those who wish to pursue opera.

“Previous competition winners have included a number of artists who have gone on to international careers, with this concert providing valuable exposure and experience for the rising generation of opera stars,” states the website.

Nicholas Ward will perform in Brock Recital Hall along with pianist Cody Martin. Ward graduated from University of Michigan and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He was recently named winner of the 2019 Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition.

On his website, it states,“The young performer is quickly becoming known for his versatility, swift comic timing, and his warm and expressive voice.”

In the past year, Ward has done at least six performances including his Chicago Opera Theater Debut as Mr. Stubb in “Moby Dick.”

Ward also has musical theatre experience. He performed as the Backwoodsman in “Show Boat,” Max Detweiler in “Sound of Music” and Horace Vandergelder in “Hello, Dolly!”
