The band Sawyer will play at Harry’s Coffeehouse at Samford University on Friday, Sept. 20. The concert will start at 8 p.m. in Harry’s Coffeehouse located in the University Center.

The Student Activities Council (SAC), a branch of SGA, organizes free concerts at Harry’s Coffeehouse every year for Samford students. Sawyer’s indie-pop duo, Emma Harvey and Kel Taylor, will kick off this school year’s first concert.

“Our leadership team met Sawyer and saw them perform, and we immediately knew we wanted to bring them to campus,” Stephen DeFrancesco, director of musical entertainment for SAC, said.

Nashville-based Harvey and Taylor formed the band in 2014 as two Belmont University students. This duo of down-to-earth singer-songwriters write relatable lyrics for their young adult audience. With songs like “Ten Feet Tall” and “Letting Go,” Harvey and Taylor accurately depict the highs and lows of emerging into adulthood. The band Sawyer brings a new twist on pop songs with their guitars and harmonic melodies.

“SAC chose the band Sawyer because they bring a diverse music sound to the concert series,” DeFrancesco said.

The concerts are held on the third Friday of each month. Free iced coffee, breakup cookies and scones from Church Street Coffee & Books will be provided for students.

“This year’s lineup is arguably the most ambitious and diverse combination of artists we’ve ever had for Harry’s concerts and we can’t wait for students to experience these concerts with their peers,” DeFrancesco said.
