Emily Scott graduated from Samford in May of 2017 having studied Music Education-Vocal.
She said that her passion for music education started long before her time at Samford.
“I always loved music, and I was always involved in choral and dance programs in high school, and I knew I wanted to do that for the rest of my life,” said Scott.
During the last weekend of March, she performed in Opera Birmingham’s production of “Romeo and Juliet.”
The connection was one that had been made while at Samford, as the director of “Romeo and Juliet,” Keith Wolfe, had taught masterclasses and workshops at Samford. When Scott recognized his name, she pursued the role, and to her surprize, he recognized her.
“That was a great (way of) getting my foot in the door,” said Scott. “I was able to do the show with them and it was an absolute blast.”
Her next stop this May is “Operetta Spectacular!” which is a compilation of different songs, directed by Samford’s Opera Director, Kristin Kenning. She is also starting a ballet showcase in May.
Her advice to someone in her major is to take time to enjoy and invest in the community at Samford.
“See what you can do to take time way from the hard work and the stress of school and just have time to do fun things together and to just be together,” said Scott.
