The Samford Communication and Media Department hosts Doughnuts with the Department at the beginning of each year in order for students to connect with their peers and faculty. This year it was hosted on Sept. 5 in Harry’s Coffeehouse.

To kick off the event, professors introduced themselves and various communication groups from honor societies to student-run media organizations talked about the programs and ways for students to get involved.

The student media organizations that attended were the Entre Nous, Samford Crimson, Communications and Media Honor Societies, and several professional societies including the Broadcast Education Association (BEA), Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).

Special guest, Steve Crocker, an anchor on Fox 6 News, stopped by to give a few words of wisdom and encouragement for the students who attended.

Samford student Media has grown rapidly over the past few years with groups expanding and gaining prominence, as well as a wave of students creating their own podcasts both for classes and on their own. This growth has allowed for more opportunities and experiences that prepare journalism and communication students for life after college.
