Intramural athletics can add friends, community and an outlet to reset and unwind while simultaneously pushing yourself to be a better teammate and player. This heavily applies to the Fall 2025 Intramural (IM) Flag Football season. This year IM flag football is getting an upgrade to its competitive nature

Anyone can form a team — a fraternity, a sorority, a group of co-ed independents — and the games begin. The teams’ divisions will be based on time and each team will play up to three games to establish themselves in the standings. An intramural football game invites anyone to come watch for entertainment, for support or for information. They are always welcoming new players and encouraging involvement especially to those looking to get plugged in.

Coordinator of Intramural Sports for Campus Recreation Kyle O’Dowd attends nearly every game recording technique, performance, sportsmanship and team cohesion for a new college football top 25 type ranking decided by him and other recreation center staff. These rankings are posted on the Samford campus rec Instagram every week.

“More people are talking about IM sports this year. That’s what we need, what we want,” said O’Dowd.

As of late, the rankings stand:  SCLSU Mud Dogs in third place, Pi Kapp A in second place and Sigma Chi A in first place. The best players of the best teams will be noted.

In the intramural realm this season, there will be a Heisman trophy awarded to one, possibly two, of the most valuable players of the highest-ranking teams.

The IM football regular season comes to an end on Oct 2. The playoffs will follow the week after based on standings where the champions will be eventually crowned in the Pete Hanna Stadium

October 8 opens a new session of intramural sports opportunities: indoor volleyball, 5v5 double elimination basketball and ultimate frisbee. Look at the IM Leagues app for sign-ups and more information.
