The Samford Volleyball team (6-2) is more than ready to defend their Southern Conference Championship after a variety of impressive pre-conference games against some notable programs.

The season began with losses in the Arizona Invitational to Loyola Marymount and Appalachian State. In the last game of the tournament, the Bulldogs stunned the Arizona Wildcats, 3-2. Not only was this the first win of the season, this was the first victory over a nationally ranked opponent in the history of Samford Volleyball.

Since that monumental victory, the Bulldogs have rolled through the remainder of their pre-conference schedule.

“We know we are in a really good place, and we credit a lot of it to our chemistry and mojo as a team,”  sophomore middle blocker Camryn Pierce said. “We didn’t really change any strategy, but we just played Samford Volleyball standard and came out on top.”

The Bulldogs followed that match with three consecutive wins against North Alabama, Jacksonville State and UAB. They then played two games in the Kennesaw State Challenge, defeating Kennesaw State on Friday and taking down South Alabama on Saturday.

The Bulldogs will travel to Bowling Green, Kentucky for the final three games of their pre-conference schedule as part of the Western Kentucky Invitational. They will play Tulsa on Friday, followed by Northern Kentucky and Western Kentucky on Saturday.

The Bulldogs will return home for their first SoCon match of the season on Wednesday, Sept.r 25 against Chattanooga.
