New faculty members Jason Terry and Angela Yoon will be performing at Bolding Studio on Nov. 14 from 7:30-9 p.m.

According to the Samford Arts Faculty website, Yoon is a coloratura soprano who is known for “her delightful and beautifully expansive voice and her ability to deliver texts through music.”

Terry’s biography on the Samford website also states that he is a solo and collaborative pianist who has given world-wide performances including in countries like France, South Korea, Canada, Hong Kong and the United States.

For their upcoming performance, Terry and Yoon will be doing a World War I theme. They have decided to do this because they want to show the progression of the arts.

“As artists, we felt it was important to try and showcase this juxtaposition of the before and after so that people are made aware of the integration between arts and society,” said Terry and Yoon

According to the Samford Arts website, the recital is titled “Broken Harmony: Reconstructing Art,” and will explore the effect World War I had on art through music composed both before and after the war.

Terry and Yoon hope that Samford students and faculty take away the effect that our society and culture have on us.

“We want them to come away with the idea that society and culture greatly affects our perspectives in many different ways, including the art created during a given time,” said Terry and Yoon.

Terry and Yoon also consider the collaboration with other artists and the formation of new relationships important as well.

“Another important aspect of this project is a collaboration between like minded individuals, regardless of their fields of expertise and backgrounds,” they said. “Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, is the relationships that are created and fostered between artists.”
