Residents of Birmingham can now experience Manduu, the new fitness studio that uses the innovative technology of electrical muscle stimulators (EMS).

Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Manduu Fitness has a total of 16 locations across the country. The new Homewood studio, located at 2825 18th St S Suite 201, is the only location in Alabama. The owners, Paul and Joleigh Payne said  they plan to open three to five more locations in the Birmingham area in the next five years.

How does this technology work? When clients arrive, they will change into specially designed workout clothes and be fitted for a battery powered electrical suit. The suit uses electrical muscle stimulators (EMS) to conduct mild electrical pulses while the client does a series of flexing and stretching movements. The pulses don’t hurt, but they add resistance to the clients’ movements. Each session is led by a trainer with only one to two clients, so the trainer can give individualized focus to each client and maximize each client’s workout.

The best part is each workout only lasts 15 minutes. The EMS workout penetrates up to 95% of a client’s muscle tissue across nine muscle groups. One workout at Manduu is equivalent to about six to eight hours of strength training.

The entire workout is low impact. There is no jumping or bouncing, so there is no strain on the joints, tendons or ligaments during the workout.

“It has the ability to work my core and legs without strain on my knees or joints,” said one of Manduu’s clients.

The first session for each new client is free. Customers can purchase a four-session package for $169 a month, a six-session package for $199 a month, or an unlimited plan for $249 a month.

For more information, visit www.manduu.com or call (205) 438-6003.
