Samford women’s soccer has started strong once again this season, as head coach Todd Yelton and the Bulldogs look for yet another Southern Conference championship.
So far, the Bulldogs sport a record of 4-2-3, putting them in third place in the SoCon. The Bulldogs started their season on fire with a 3-game win streak then battled with Ole Miss for an eventual tie. Samford took their first loss from West Virginia in a close 1-0 match. However, the team fought well against Auburn and closed the game in a tie. Wrapping up the non-conference schedule, the team secured a victory against Tennessee Tech in a 1-0 score.
Success for the Bulldogs is nothing new, as the team entered this season as the reigning champions of the SoCon. Senior forward Taylor Yount said that their strong start shows the team’s potential.
“Our start to the season has overall been one of the best since I’ve been at Samford,” Yount said. “We really have the potential to do some amazing things this season, and the fact that we’ve already made history is something to be proud of in itself.”
Yount said she believes strongly in her team.
“(There is) no doubt that we have the potential to make another really great run for the NCAA Tournament,” Yount said. “We just have to make sure we don’t overlook any games and focus on the game that’s in front of us.”
The Bulldogs will look to continue their early season success when they face The Citadel at home Friday, September 23rd.
