The Samford men’s and women’s tennis teams both competed on the road this weekend (October 28-30), with women’s tennis traveling to Charleston, S.C. and men’s traveling to Macon, Ga.

Men’s Tennis Earns Nine Wins

The Bulldogs took part in Mercer University’s Gridiron Classic with nine of the team’s players gaining singles wins.

Junior Mathew Gooch said: “It wasn’t the best weekend of tennis for a lot of us, but I was proud of how we competed and fought for each other. I think we found some things we need to work on and are hungry for some better results.”

The team will host their last look at fall match play at the CCB Collegiate Invite on November 4-6 at the Country Club of Birmingham.

Women’s Tennis Ends Fall Season

Samford women’s tennis made the eight hour trip to Charleston, S.C. to compete in the College of Charleston Halloween Invite. Head coach, David Vest, described the weekend as “a good indication of where the team is and what we need to do moving forward.”

Redshirt junior Samantha Nanere posted an undefeated singles record of 3-0. Nanere also had a doubles record with partner Lindsay Song of two wins and one loss. This means Nanere had an overall record of 5-1 on the weekend. Nanere said: “I fell very confident with how I played, I hope to make more strides like this for the spring season.”
