Tennis at Samford has been heating up as both the men’s and women’s teams are getting into the meat of their schedules. The women’s team has been playing well, as they currently sit at 4-3 overall. The men’s team recently moved to 3-4 after two straight wins against Alabama State and Alabama A&M.

After a slow start (two 7-0 losses to Alabama and Auburn, respectively), men’s tennis has begun to pick it up. They’ve won three out of their last five, and three players (Mohammed Ali Bellalouna, Sandeep Mohandoss, and Maxwell Giddens) have won SoCon Player of the Week in the past three weeks.

Mohandoss shared that he fully believes in the potential of the team.

“We have some incredible players in the team like Bellalouna, who won the player of the week the past week before me,” Mohandoss said. “As a team, we all know our potential, and everyone on the team can do incredible things.”

The women’s team also started slow, losing two of their first three games. But they soon heated up, winning three straight. After that, however, they fell to their crosstown rival, the UAB Blazers, in a 4-3 loss in their most recent matchup.

Samford’s men’s and women’s tennis teams are off to decent starts this year but will look to ramp up their play as conference matchups are fast approaching. The men play at Southern Miss Friday, Feb 17, while the women will face Murray State Friday, Feb 24.
