With the construction of new residence halls in central campus, Samford res life has decided to place all freshmen in Central Campus for Fall of 2025 and is repurposing Evergreen and Mountainview for female upperclassmen students.

This change is meant to consolidate freshman living to one area of campus rather than being spread out.

“Having all freshman in Central Campus will be a positive change for the University as it has been many years since freshmen were able to live in one area of campus,” said Lauren Taylor, the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs.

However, for rising sophomores such as Aaralyn Barry– who has lived this past year in Evergreen– this comes as somewhat of a disappointment.

“Coming into my freshman year, all my sophomore friends lived in apartment style housing, and it was my assumption that I would have the same until Samford changed housing recently.” Barry said. “It wouldn’t be a big deal to live in Evergreen again, but it would be unfortunate considering (rising sophomores) assumed we would be able to live in apartment style dorms.”

“Residence Life, along with Facilities Management, work each summer to maintain and make improvements to the residence halls,” Taylor said when asked about how she thought this would affect the quality of upperclassmen housing.

With 650 beds being added to campus, Samford hopes to accommodate 75% of its total students with on-campus housing.

Upperclassmen who have previously lived in Tributary Rise or Estelle Apartments, and do not meet the 21 year or older age limit will be required to move back on campus, potentially in Mountainview or Evergreen.

Students who currently live in either Mountainview or Evergreen will not have the option to remain in their same room for the upcoming school year.
