Samford University’s Campus Recreation department is gearing up for a busy summer season. Starting June 1, Seibert Hall will transition to its summer operating hours.

According to Kyle O’Dowd, Coordinator of Intramural Sports for Campus Recreation, the facility will maintain a robust schedule to accommodate the campus community.

“The main Seibert facility will be open for the whole summer. Holidays will have adjusted hours,” O’Dowd said. “In addition, the basketball courts and track area will have limited hours due to camps and events.”

While the doors remain open, access is specifically reserved for certain groups during the summer months. Currently enrolled summer students, employees and students already enrolled for the Fall 2026 semester are eligible to use the facilities.

However, the policy excludes incoming freshmen until 14 days before classes officially start. For those looking to bring a friend, the guest policy remains unchanged; a $15 fee required for all sponsored guests.

While the weights are moving, some services will be taking a break. The Bulldog Bistro will remain closed throughout the summer. Additionally, those looking to utilize outdoor facilities will need to plan ahead.

“All the outdoor facilities for the summer are by reservation,” O’Dowd said. “You can reserve them through the Campus Rec email at campusrec@samford.edu.”

For those who prefer a guided workout, group fitness classes aren’t going anywhere. The updated summer schedule for these classes will be posted on the Campus Rec app.

The rec center continues to be powered by Samford’s student body. If you are looking for a summer job, the rec center is actively looking for help. Interested students should reach out to Jordan Ozment at jozment@samford.edu for more information.
