Samford alumnus and magician David Garrard will perform during a free event on Sept. 12 at the Wright Center.
“The Magic of David Garrard” is an event full of magic and music that features audience participation.
Garrard is from Atlanta, Georgia, and began living in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1975. He became interested in magic at age 12 and has been studying and making magic for over 50 years.
“When I got interested in magic at the age of 12, I never dreamed it would be this big a part of my life, but it sure has been fun. I have gotten to go places I never dreamed I would go. I have gotten to do things I never thought I would do. All along the way, I‘ve made lots of friends,” Garrard said on his website.
Garrard is also a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (The Order of Merlin), the Louisville Magic Club, and the Society of American Magicians. He was featured on the TV show “Penn and Teller: Fool Us.”
Along with being a magician, Garrard served as a minister at St. Mathew’s Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, for 42 years before retiring in September 2018. As a Christian, one thing Garrard is most amazed by is God’s love.
“The most amazing thing to me about God‘s love is how God showed His love by sending His son, Jesus into the world. Jesus, in turn, showed His love by giving His life for me and you so that we could have forgiveness for our sins, a meaningful and purposeful life here and now, and a place in heaven when life on earth ends,” Garrard said.
