On Wednesday Feb. 26 campus worship released their new single, “Salvation Unto Us Has Come,” which was originally written by Paulus Seratus in the 16th century. Wen Reagan and Kara Young modified the original folk-rock song with hints of gospel blues German melody to give it the perfect tone for Ash Wednesday.

Worship professor, Wen Reagan described the Worship Arts recording process.

“We recorded the whole track up on the fourth floor of Buchanan Hall, where we have a little makeshift studio we crafted in my office. All parts of the song were recorded by Kara and I, however I had production consultation from several of our Samford worship students, including Meagan Kennedy, Jacob Lindsey, Dawson Brown, and Pierce Moffett.”

Last Fall marked the first of a released series by Samford Worship, featuring live recordings of the Campus Worship Team. This song is their first studio release, paving the way forward as they pursue the long term goal of establishing a worship record label on campus.

The Campus Worship Team is a credited course that all Samford students are eligible to audition for. Dr. Reagan encourages students to pursue any of the variety of worship ensembles including Worship Arts Ensemble, Gospel Choir, A Capella Choir and University Chorale.

“Samford Worship, our in-house record label, is much bigger than Campus Worship Team. We want to highlight and produce excellent worship music being created across campus, whether from other ensembles, other campus bands, or individual worship singers and  songwriters. So keep eyes and ears out for future releases.”
