Samford men’s and women’s tennis teams have been battling for a chance at the SoCon title all season.

The men’s team currently sits at 9-8 overall after losing four of their first five matches to start the season. After three straight defeats to Alabama, Auburn, and Kennesaw State, the team pulled out a win over Alabama State at home in a 5-2 victory. After the victory over the Hornets, the team won three of their next four matches, with losses to South Alabama and conference rival ETSU the only blemishes.

After that loss to the Buccaneers, the Bulldogs came out firing against UNC Greensboro, winning a 7-0 blowout. Wins over The Citadel and Youngstown State continued the three-game win streak, but the Bulldogs followed this up with three straight losses to Rice, New Orleans, and Belmont.

However, the team has picked it up again after beating Wofford and Furman 7-0 and 5-2, respectively.

The men’s tennis season has been nothing short of a rollercoaster, and Head Coach Oliver Reynolds and the team will be looking for some stability down the stretch. The team will next face UAB in a Birmingham rivalry match on April 5.

The women’s team has an overall record of 9-5, and the team has been on fire as of late. The Lady Bulldogs have won four out of their last five matches and have defended home court with a 7-3 home record. The squad started the year off 1-3, with a win over Navy but subsequent losses to Wisconsin and Auburn.

Much like the men’s team, though, the team got back on track against Alabama State, as a 5-2 home victory propelled the Lady Bulldogs to win four of five matches. In the team’s most recent match against ETSU, though, the Bulldogs were manhandled 7-0.

The women’s team will be looking to rebound at Mercer on March 31.
