Over the weekend, Samford University’s journalism and mass communication students attended the Southeast Journalism Conference, an annual conference that celebrates collegiate journalism in the U.S. southeast.

The conference was held between Feb.13-15 and encompassed dozens of universities from seven states. It was hosted at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Over two days, students competed in various journalistic categories spanning photography, print writing, broadcast journalism and even research.

In addition, an award ceremony was held, which recognized college journalists’ work throughout the year.

Samford University’s journalism and mass communication department took home many awards, including Best College Newspaper for The Samford Crimson in the South and College Journalist of the Year (William Marlow). Samford JMC major Griffin Schou also won Best Research Paper. Other awards included for Samford’s student-run magazine, The Local, as well as for broadcasting and photography.
